The Cemetery Committee of the Wabash Valley Genealogy Society (WVGS) will be hosting a “Cemetery Restoration Workshop” on Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Second Prairie Creek Cemetery. The cemetery is located at 12875 S. Sullivan Pl. at Cutsinger Rd., behind the Lighthouse of the Lamb of God Church.
Jeannie Regan-Dinius, Director of Special Initiatives, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology, will give a presentation on the State of Indiana laws and regulations regarding cemetery restorations and care by the counties and townships.
Also offered will be a hands-on segment conducted by Wayne Langman, a cemetery restorationist and WVGS member. Wayne will demonstrate techniques for cleaning stones using safe chemicals. He will also provide instruction on the proper procedure for repairing and resetting grave stones. Instructions will also be given on how to add gravestone information online and to your genealogy files.
The cost for the workshop is $15.00 for WVGS members and $20.00 for non-members, payable at the site. After registration, participants will be sent a list of items to bring on the day of the event.
