The Amazing Interurban

By Jeff Koehler
In all of all of the transportation history of America there has been nothing quite like the electric interurban. The electric cars covered with dust from near-by dirt roads brought you right into Main St. of numerous small Indiana towns and throughout the Midwest.
On Jan. 14, 2019, Jeff Koehler will lead a discussion of the fascinating history of the interurban from its beginnings in Brazil, Indiana, in 1893, to the last run to Indianapolis from Terre Haute in 1940. Jeff will show some pictures and tell the incredible history that saw numerous innovations in transportation and freight delivery brought about by on-going developments associated with the interurban.
Jeff Koehler is a 5th generation farmer and a lifelong resident of Clay County, Indiana. He has been the Clay County Historian for almost 20 years.
