An estimated 25 million Americans have ancestral roots to Scotland—that’s almost 10% of the total U.S. population.  With so many Scottish descendants across the country, it’s likely that you, or someone you know, is one of them. If you know or you want to determine if you may have an ancestral connection to Scotland, then you will want to attend the Wabash Valley Genealogy Society’s (WVGS) June public meeting.

Richard Cooper has had an interest in Scottish related genealogy for many, many years. (WVSS). The WVSS was founded in 2003 for the people of Vigo County and surrounding areas with the goal of providing individuals a place to meet and share their Scottish heritage, traditions, and interests.

During Cooper’s presentation, he will cover a brief history and the functions of WVSS including the Cultural and Academic scholarship programs available to individuals interested in furthering their Scottish studies.  Other presentation topics include the Scottish Clan System and Scottish Genealogy websites. A Q&A session will also be included along with Scottish Shortbread (recipe included) for all in attendance.

After Richard Cooper’s retirement from the US Postal Service and the US Air Force, he was able to pursue his many other interests.  He is a member of the Scottish National Party; Prior Elect of the Priory of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin; the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem (Knights Templar); and the past National Convenor of Clan MacDuff.  In his spare time, Richard is also a flautist with the Terre Haute Sinfonietta and the Community Band.
