The Indiana State Library will host the Indiana Genealogy and Local History Fair on Saturday, October 22, 2016, in downtown Indianapolis from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free and the fair is open to the public.
This year’s theme is “200 Years of My Indiana Home,” examining the lives and times of Hoosiers throughout the years and exploring the homes and neighborhoods in which they lived. Attendees will learn how to incorporate local history, architecture, house history, and maps and other land record resources into their family research. Jill Morelli will speak on house histories – looking at the “genealogy” of your house, and using Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps in your research. Ann Staley will be speaking on the everyday lives of our ancestors. She will also examine city directories, how to locate them, and how to utilize them in your research. Visit the tables in the exhibition hall to collect information from genealogical and local history organizations and Indiana public libraries, and shop the commercial vendors.
