"The Mystique of Domes"
Gayle Cook to speak on "The Mystique of Domes"On Wednesday, October 26, Indiana philanthropist and preservationist Gayle Cook will make a special presentation at Indiana State University on "The Mystique of Domes." Gayle will speak about dome construction and how she and her late husband, Bill, put their knowledge to work restoring two of Indiana's domed landmarks, including the spectacular West Baden Springs Hotel and the former Central Avenue Methodist Church in Indianapolis, which opened this spring as Indiana Landmarks Center.
Indiana State University, Indiana Landmarks, Art Spaces, Inc. and Farrington Renaissance (a local community development corporation) are sponsoring the presentation to raise support for restoring an interior stained glass dome in Indiana State's Normal Hall, removed in the 1950s. For more information contact Indiana Landmarks' Western Regional Office, 812-232-4534 or west@indianalandmarks.org.
The talk, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 7 p.m. in the University Hall Theater located at 401 N. Seventh St. in Terre Haute. Parking is available on the ISU parking lots between Eighth and Ninth street at Chestnut Street.
