The Indiana Genealogical Society has established a lineage affiliate, the Society of Civil War Families of Indiana.  Any Indiana Genealogy Society member who is a direct descendant of any person who served in an Indiana Civil War Union military or naval unit, or who was a resident of Indiana upon joining a non-Indiana Union unit, may apply for membership in the SCWFI.

 

To be considered for the SCWFI, prospective members will fill out the application form, include documentation proving their lineage and submit an application fee. The SCWFI's Governing Committee will review applications received by the December 31 deadline each year and inductees will receive a Certificate of Membership and the SCWFI  medal. New members are inducted in a ceremony during the Indiana Genealogical Society's annual conference.

TWENTY WVGS MEMBERS INDUCTED

INTO THE SOCIETY OF

CIVIL WAR FAMILIES OF INDIANA

 

The Society of Civil War Families of Indiana inducted 27 new members at the 2009 Indiana Genealogical Society's Annual Conference at Indianapolis IN on Saturday, 25 April 2009. The

Wabash ValleyGenealogy Society was well represented in the induction ceremony, as 20 of the 27 inductees were members, or family of WVGS members. 

The WVGS members inducted in The Society of Civil War Families of Indiana were: Donna Adams, Judy Bucher, Deneta Campbell, Kathy Clayton, Cindy Davidson, John Dersch, Alice Lloyd Everly (mother of Linda Jeanne Everly), Linda Jeanne Everly, Cleotis Hamilton, Deborah Kerr, Marlene Lu, Barbara McQueen, Norm Nash, Phoebe Riley Neeb (Betty Riley's daughter), Joyce Oehler, Janice Phillips, Anthony Reeder and Darlene Reeder, Vikki Sordean, and Debbie Warren.

 

These new members of The Society of Civil War Families of

Indianahad attended the WVGS continuing workshop led by David L. Bonnett.  Each had completed the SCWFI application which documented their lineage to an IndianaCivil War Veteran.

The Society of Civil War Families of Indiana is a lineage society and affiliate of the

To be considered for the SCWFI, prospective members must fill out the application form, which includes documentation proving their lineage from the ancestor to themselves, and pay a one time SCWFI membership fee.
